Description

Still lovin the Southern Skies

This very (16 full moons) large, and bright (Magnitude 1) Nebula, is 8,500 light years away in the constellation Carina.   It contains the star Eta Carina, currently the most massive star that can be studied in great detail.

Eta Carinae is a highly luminous hypergiant star. Estimates of its mass ranges from 100 to 150 times the mass of the Sun, and its luminosity is about four million times that of the Sun.
